Hackers attack LOT airlines computer system

Over a thousand LOT airline passengers were grounded at Warsaw’s Chopin airport yesterday after hackers attacked the airline’s computer systems used to issue flight plans.

The system was hacked in the afternoon and took around five hours to repair, reports Reuters.

Ten of the airline’s national and international flights were cancelled and about a dozen more delayed, said spokesman Adrian Kubicki.

LOT said it was providing hotels for those who needed to stay overnight.

It said flights destined for Warsaw were able to land safely and no other airports were affected.

Kubicki said: "We’re using state-of-the-art computer systems, so this could potentially be a threat to others in the industry," Kubicki said.

The attack in now being investigated by the authorities.
