Hainan Airlines gets go-ahead for San Jose-Beijing flights
China’s largest privately-owned carrier Hainan Airlines has been given the green light to start nonstop flights from San Jose to Beijing.
The service will begin June 15 and is the only service linking the two airports and only the third scheduled international route from Mineta San Jose.
Service will run Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday on Boeing 787 aircraft with 36 seats in business class and 177 in economy.
There are strong business ties between Silicon Valley and China and over 500 local companies have offices or representation in China.
"Travelers will no longer have to fool around on the freeway to San Francisco to get between China and Silicon Valley," said Joel Chusid, Hainan’s executive director in the United States.
Hainan also announced plans to start flying nonstop four times a week from Shanghai to Seattle from June 22.
In addition it will also start a three days a week service to Shanghai from Boston Logan Airport from June 20.
