Haiti students given skills to boost economy
Haiti students are being sent overseas to learn skills which will boost their tourism economy.
More than 20 students, who have withstood Haiti’s post-earthquake conditions, have been chosen by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association’s Education Foundation (CHTAEF) to be educated abroad.
The Haiti project has been run outside the normal scope of the CHTAEF – which offers funding and placements for 50 Caribbean candidates to study every year- and has gained funding from the Clinton foundation for training rooms.
The hotel school in Port au Prince was destroyed and the students were left without a school, home and sanitation.
After the earthquake many students offered their services free to the hotels that remained even though the majority were living in tents.
