Have Kids, Will Travel

Peregrine has announced a range of itineraries designed just for families in Africa, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, China, South East Asia and the Himalaya.

All trips in the new 2007-08 Family Adventures brochure offer a combination of culture and convenience – there are no long travel days, and the emphasis is on activities that parents and kids can enjoy.

One of Peregrine’s new family-friendly trips is the eight-day Tanzania Family Safari. Starting in Nairobi, you’ll be flown into the Serengeti for two days and nights of safaris from the base of a permanent tented camp. Game drives in the Serengeti are said to be the best wildlife viewing experiences in Africa. Kids will be on the lookout for lots more wildlife in the Ngorongoro Crater, including the chance to see the rare and endangered black rhinoceros.

Another highlight is a visit to a Masai village to learn about their culture, try out their traditional style of dancing and visit the classroom of a local school.

The Tanzania Family Safari departs Nairobi from July to September 2007. Prices start at $3,575 per adult, twin share, and $2,955 per child, and includes an experienced local tour leader, safari guides, transfers, local flight, game park fees and most meals.

Thailand is ideal for families: it’s an inexpensive destination and the locals offer a warm welcome – especially to children. Peregrine’s 14-day Trunks, Tribes and Beaches trip begins and ends in Bangkok and includes a night in a homestay at an Elephant Conservation Centre, with time to get to know the elephant handlers and learn about the important work carried out at the centre. There’s more time to get close to these gentle giants with an elephant ride and trek to visit the hill-tribe villages outside Chiang Mai.

Other activities like a cruise on a rice barge and a bike ride around the ruins of Sukothai are balanced with some relaxing time on the beaches of Koh Samet.

The Trunks, Tribes and Beaches trip costs $1,665 per adult, twin share, and $1,615 per child, and includes an experienced local tour leader, accommodation, transfers, domestic flight, breakfasts, and sightseeing and entrance fees. There are regular departures year round from Bangkok.
