Hawaii bill wants to outlaw small plastic toiletries in hotels
A state bill proposal is seeking to ban single-use plastic bottles in Hawaii hotels commonly used for shampoo, conditioner, and soap. It is a move to transition to bulk dispensers for hotel toiletries.
Rep. Nicole Lowe, chair of the House Energy & Environmental Protection committee, tabled the bill. Chains like Marriott and Hilton have promised to phase out plastic bottles but the bill would make it a legal requirement if passed.
It would forbid hotels with 50 or more beds from providing toiletries in small plastic bottles in 2024 and then for all hotels from 2025.
