Hawaii braced for powerful storm
Visitors to Hawaii are being urged to be vigilant as the islands brace themselves for the arrival of a major storm.
Hurricane Lane, which weakened slightly to a category 4 storm overnight, is expected to bring torrential rains, high winds and dangerous surfing conditions.
The UK Foreign Office said holidaymakers should be vigilant, take necessary precautions, monitor local news broadcasts and follow the advice of local authorities.
Hawaii residents have been stocking up on water, food and emergency supplies.
"Everyone in the path of Hurricane Lane please prepare yourselves, heed the advice of State and local officials.~Be safe." tweeted US President Donal Trump.
The US National Weather Service said the centre of the storm will track ‘dangerously close’ to the Hawaiian Islands from today (Thursday) until Saturday.
American Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines issued advisories for booked customers and are waiving change fees.
