Hawaii tourism boat company charged with scamming investors
A couple face criminal charges after allegedly scamming investors out of $28 million on false claims of developing a marine tourism business.
Curtiss Jackson, 69, and Jamey Jackson, 59, pitched the idea of semi-submersible boats for tourism.
They raised funds from 400 investors, prosecutors said.
They knowingly defrauded investors by using funds to buy homes in California and Hawaii, a Mercedes, taking vacations and even spending it on psychic readings and marijuana.
According to court documents, the couple strung along investors with false claims about the progress of the ‘Semisub One’ prototype for several years.
They were charged with securities fraud, conspiracy, mail fraud and wire fraud.
