Hawaii visitors decline after Governor’s ‘stay away’ plea

Sunday, 07 Sep, 2021 0

Tourists are beginning to heed Hawaii Gov. David Ige’s warning to stay away.

Latest data shows a fall in visitation two weeks after Gov. Ige asked visitors not to travel to the islands due to the surge in Covid hospitalizations.

The latest two-week visitor numbers show a drop of more than  100,000 compared to 380,000 visitors in the two-week period just prior to Ige’s announcement.

This is despite an uptick in numbers during the Labor Day weekend.

Although no new state-wide restrictions have been issued, Maui and Oahu are introducing vaccine passport programs requiring proof of vaccination to enter facilities such as restaurants.
