Hawaiian Airlines ending Sendai, Japan service
Hawaiian Airlines is dropping Sendai, Japan from its transpacific route network citing poor demand.
The final round trip flight to Sendai will depart Honolulu on September 29 and return to Hawaii on September 30, the airline said.
Sendai is part of a three times a week triangle route from Honolulu to Sendai and on to Sapporo, but the airline said the Sendai stop has not met expectations.
"We thought the Sendai and Sapporo triangle would work well because the two cities have complementary tourist seasons," said Hawaiian Airlines spokesperson Alison Croyle.
"It has become clear after two years that there is not enough growth to justify the costlier triangular service."
Hawaiian will continue serving Sapporo as a three times a week direct service once the Sendai link ends.
The carrier also flies daily to Tokyo.
