Hawaiian Airlines trimming Big Island flight schedule
Hawaiian Airlines is cutting back on flights to the Big Island beginning next month.
The airline is dropping one interisland round trip service to Hilo and two to Kona
"We are taking flights out of periods that have enough frequency to allow us to maintain the robust schedule of flying that our residents, in particular, expect," said Hawaiian spokeswoman Ann Botticelli.
It will still leave 14 round trip flights between Honolulu and Hilo and 21 to and from Kona daily.
The airline has trimmed second quarter revenue estimates due to the volcanic eruption, and also warned that rising fuel costs will hit the bottom line.
Other than impacting demand slightly, the volcanic activity has not affected Hawaiian’s flight operations.
"We have not seen operational disruption at our airports due to the volcano, and continue to encourage those who wish to visit Hawaii Island to do so," Botticelli said.
The airline also announced it has just taken delivery of its first US produced Airbus A321neo.
It was handed over after leaving the Airbus facility in Mobile, Alabama and is the first of 18 expected through 2020.
