Hays staff told to work only every other week
Hays Travel retail staff have seen their pay cut in half and told to work only every other week during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
Some foreign exchange staff and members of its travel academy, all of whom have been the company for less than two years, have been reduced to zero hours as part of temporary measures put in place for the next four weeks.
Shops will open reduced hours, from 10am to 4.30pm.
The UK’s largest travel agency chain had previously offered staff unpaid leave, but it said further steps were needed to cut its wage bill as not enough staff took up the offer.
As yet, there have been no redundancies but talks are ongoing with staff placed on zero hours contracts about their future.
