Heathrow ‘starts spending’ on third runway
Heathrow has begun spending on building its third runway, according to a report.
Airport chief executive John Holland-Kaye said the process of pumping hundreds of millions of pounds into expanding the airport started over the weekend, Sky News reported.
Sky said 95% of the project’s procurement spending will be with the British supply chain and the process of investing £50 million into this before the end of next year is under way.
It is estimated 2,700 jobs, including engineers, architects and planning managers, will be created.
Holland-Kaye said: "Over the coming years, I look forward to working with our new partners to create thousands of decent jobs across the UK as together we deliver Britain’s new runway."
