Heathrow worker arrested over air miles fraud
Man built up millions of miles and allowed others to have free flights
Police at Heathrow are reported to have arrested a check-in clerk who allegedly conned millions of air miles and arranged free flights for other people.
According to the online news provider Ananova, officers from the National Crime Squad’s immigration crime team raided the Air Canada desk at Heathrow’s terminal three. The man is accused to fraudulently building up the air miles, which were valid on the shared system used by Air Canada, United Airlines, Brazil’s Varig, bmi, Lufthansa, SAS, Singapore Airlines, Spanair and Austrian Airlines.
A spokesman told the website: “It is thought he amassed so many points that he received free gifts and was able to arrange free flights for others.” The report claims that the man is an Afghan national who was of “uncertain” immigration status, but who was in the UK legally.
