Heatwave hits France
Extreme temperatures are forecast across most of France this week, with daytime temperatures over 40 ºC and overnight temperatures over 20 ºC in parts of the country.
The French authorities have issued advice to visitors about sensible precautions to take.
Weather warnings are in place in 81 out of France’s 96 mainland departments, the first time this many have been on a weather alert at the same time.
The city Bordeaux saw its highest ever temperature since records began of 41.2C on Tuesday, Meteo-France said.
In Paris authorities have banned the majority of cars due to pollution concerns.
The ban is expected to continue until the end of the week.
