Hedgehog delays Air New Zealand flight
A just landed Air New Zealand flight was delayed taxing to the gate due to a jaywalking hedgehog.
The pilot spotted the critter on the runway at Dunedin Airport shortly after the Air New Zealand flight touched down from Auckland.
“I have to make an announcement I’ve never made before, there is a hedgehog on the runaway’,” the captain told passengers.
The plane had to sit tight while firefighters were called.
They managed to coax the hedgehog off the runway and the plane taxied to the gate.
“The hedgehog made if off the runway safely,” Air New Zealand said.
“Over the course of a year its not unusual to have a few hedgehogs walk across the runway,” an airport spokesperson said.
