Henley Centre trends findings for TMI conference
‘Future trends’ research from the Henley Centre revealing changing leisure patterns is to be revealed at the Tourism Management Institute’s June conference.
The findings, which throw light on the way in which people’s leisure breaks are changing, will be under discussion, according to organisers of the TMI conference.
Under the theme, ‘Delivering the Dream’, the event run by the professional body for destination managers will be held on June 8 in Cheltenham.
It will bring together key personnel from the UK tourism sector to debate important issues for destination management.
TMI president Amanda Shepherd said: “The challenge for destination management professionals is to develop new skills such as futures planning, product packaging, event development, and working with other agencies to influence infrastructure improvements and asset development at the destination.
“And there is a lot that destination managers can do in the short term through more creative and effective packaging of product offers and events.”
“We’ll be hearing about – and discussing – the very latest thinking on product development,” said conference organiser Eleanor Muirhead.
“As well as future trends, we’ll be looking at building destination reputation, at events with distinctive traditions, the changing role of the TIC, growth in wellbeing breaks, urban culture and new technologies. In addition to the keynote speakers, there will be case studies, close focus sessions and delegate discussions.
“We aim to enable delegates to think through the issues as they relate to their own destinations and leave them with a constructive action plan of what they need to do to develop the product in their own patch.”
