Hey…..now this is a day I like.
With the USA celebrating every conceivable; “day†there is and Australia still celebrating The Queen’s Birthday, it was refreshing to find out this morning from www.privatecellar.com.au that today is apparently, ………….yes…….wait for it…………International Wine Day.
With wine now one of the most important elements of the tourism industry, what better day to celebrate than International Wine Day, so, be it over lunch or at the end of a hard day at the end of a hard week, you can now feel justified in raising glass or two in celebration!
Hey, I do feel rather cheated though because, do we have an International Tourism Day, when all of us in the world’s most 365 day /24/7 industry, we could all justifiably take a day off?
I don’t think we do have one and if we do, it does not appear to be very effective, well not at least in giving us a day off!
No we don’t…….perhaps we should.
www.privatecellar.com.au goes on to say it’s amazing, there are only 365 days in a year (one more in a Leap Year) yet there seems to be thousands of commemorative Days. Some of the oddest – International Talk Like a Pirate Day and International Town Criers Day.
Hang on though the wine industry has been cheated too, with www.privatecellar.com.au revealing, “incredibly, there is no International Wine Day. (Ironically, with enough International Wine you could end up talking like a pirate and yelling at a town again… although, of course, we do not encourage irresponsible drinking…)
So in the absence of a holiday to celebrate the eu de vie, le vin, www.privatecellar.com.au has declared April 10th, 2008 the inaugural International Wine Day… or, for our French speakers – Jour Internationale De Vin, Spanish – DÃa Internacional Del Vino, South African – Internationale wyn dag and Kiwi – UnternNUTional Wine Day Bro……The Mole says in Australia it could be International Chuck a Winie Day….Mate! What do you think?
So, go one celebrate today and let’s do as www.privatecellar.com.au and establish and International Tourism Day!
