Highly respected Denver tour group unexpectedly closes its doors
The travel plans of hundreds could be disrupted with the unexpected closing of Mile Hi Tours, which in 33 years built up a good reputation of offering discount vacation packages in the US and Mexico.
An E-mail informed customers that the Denver-based wholesaler was closing.
In an e-mail sent to travel agents, Mile Hi blamed some of its problems on drastic changes in the travel industry.
The letter said the company had focused on customer service and support but that the travel industry had “moved away from service as a valued selling point, and short-term profit has become more valued than established trusted relationships.”
The message said Mile Hi found it impossible to compete in the new technology-drive, mega-business environment.
“Regrettably, we were just too small and too focused on personal service, and we missed the shift in the changing marketplace,” wrote Pam Murdoch, Mile Hi’s president and founder.
The company started in 1973 as a Las Vegas specialist.
The company plans to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the next few days, according to the Rocky Mountain News.
What will happen to travelers who have booked trips on Mile Hi was not known, but the company is being represented by the Aschenberg Law Group.
