Hiking in Europe’s last wilderness frontier for active seniors
With hiking traditionally the domain of what might be called “younger” travellers, the boom in “younger – mature – and fit” travellers has led Scandinavian travel specialist MyPlanet Australia to introduced a new hiking tour aimed active seniors (aged 55 and over) in Sweden’s Lapland, an area often referred to as the last wilderness in Europe.
The tour is a special edition tour along the Royal Trail that is slightly shorter in daily hiking distances and more focused on the scenery of the stunning Swedish landscapes.
The eight day tour departs 18 August and follows the Royal Trail through a majestic world of mountains, river deltas and valleys that form a rare and diverse environment ranging from lush mountain forests to an almost barren land and glaciers.
This part of Europe is renowned as a Mecca for trekking enthusiasts and the landscape offers a truly unique and special encounter with nature, wildlife and the indigenous Sami culture.
The tour starts with a short hiking tour in the Abisko National Park and includes a trek up Mount Kebnekaise, Sweden’s highest mountain at 2105 metres, weather permitting! Trekkers will also enjoy an authentic Swedish sauna experience!
Prices start at $1920 and include all meals and accommodation in mountain cabins.
