Hilton opens first Rio hotel

Hilton Worldwide has marked its debut in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro with the opening of the 298-room Hilton Barra.

The nine-story newbuild is located in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood, five minutes from the Olympic Park.

It features a 100-feet high lobby, a restaurant, rooftop pool bar, a fitness center, 10 meeting rooms and two ballrooms.

Hotel guestrooms, which include executive floor rooms and suites, all have energy-efficient automatic sensors.

"The opening of Hilton Barra Rio de Janeiro is a momentous occasion for Hilton Worldwide, as it marks our entry into this important Latin America destination," said Tom Potter, senior vice president, Caribbean, Mexico and Latin America, Hilton Worldwide.

Hilton is offering special introductory rates starting at US$159 and HHonors members receive 1,000 HHonors points per night during a stay until September 1, 2015.
