Holiday.com domain to be auctioned tomorrow
A world record fee could be paid out for website address holiday.com when it goes under the hammer at London’s World Travel market tomorrow (Wednesday).
With a starting bid of $5,000,000, it is expected to attract up to £20 million.
The domain is being auctioned off by Breathe Luxury Limited.
“Holiday.com has been with its current owners for around 16 years and some believe it to be the ‘Holy Grail’ for the travel industry,” said the firm.
“Many major travel companies have strived to acquire Holiday.com over the years in order to increase their market share. However it is only now that the owners are at ease to part with it.”
It said the keyword ‘Holiday’ is so widely searched on major search engines that over 90% of online travel businesses are using ‘holiday’ as one of their top five key search words.
WTM senior director Simon Press said holiday.com would guarantee its new owners high search engine ranking.
“This will see it attract a massive amount of interest both from leading travel industry companies and entrepreneurs looking to achieve a major presence in the sector,” he said.
