Holiday mood makes Brits break the bank
When it comes to going abroad, British travellers are pretty poor at watching the pounds and pennies.
One in three holidaymakers spends £100 or more than planned and one in four goes over budget by £300 or more, a survey by Lloyds TSB Internet Banking has revealed.
The financial folly is blamed on relaxed attitudes caused by being abroad and temptations to spend, spend, spend.
The trend has been uncovered in a survey by the bank of nearly 1,700 people. Many blamed unexpected bills for hotels, meals and entertainment, and spending more on presents, for slipping into the red.
A fifth also confessed to forgetting to pay bills before going on holiday – and one in 13 people left the UK without any foreign currency.
Matthew Timms, head of Lloyds TSB Internet Banking, told the Press Association that budgets could easily “go out of the window” on holiday.
He said: “Clearly British travellers need to budget much more carefully than they are doing at the moment.”
