We’ve all been there. You’re working from home and your office phone rings, only for another member of your family to answer and destroy your professional credibility in seconds, yelling “you’re wanted, pet, and what time is tea?”
Now homeworking giant Travel Counsellors have tackled spousal faux pas head on by launching a new training initiative for their employees’ other halves.
The company’s sales director Malcolm Hingley told delegates at a series of mini conferences just held that the new scheme was designed to give partners more of an insight into what travel counsellors did and give them the skills to help them.
He said: “We are proud of the community we have developed and grown here at Travel Counsellors and take a keen interest in all aspects of your lives, welcoming not just yourselves but your partners and children into the TC family.
“Now we are launching this partner programme to enable your partners to play an active role in your business and be part of your success.”
Partners will experience their first training day next month at head office in Bolton. They will learn about the company’s vision and values and get training on the customer management system and marketing tools. They will also learn about gaining referrals and networking, to support their partner’s business.
Hingley added: “Essentially partners will be acting as an ambassador for their travel counsellor. In the past we have always involved out agent’s partners and spouses in activities such as inviting them along to our annual conference and the feedback has always been really positive.
“They like to feel part of the company and many have expressed interest in learning more about the company and skills to enable them to market and support their partners’ businesses.”
Last year Colin Bradnam, the husband of Suffolk-based travel counsellor Jennifer Bradnam, won a “Most Helpful Partner” award for driving his wife’s customer’s family on a 1,146 round trip to rescue them from Turin during the ash cloud.
