Hong Kong hotel group to open second London property
Hong Kong hotel group Dorsett Hospitality International is to develop a second property in London.
Set to open in early 2017, Dorsett City London will be a ‘sleek and sensitively designed’ building with 275 guestrooms, two restaurants, a bar and 1,600 sqare feet of meeting space.
The business hotel will be in a 13-storey building formerly known as The Matrix, next to Aldgate tube station.
The group opened its first hotel, Dorsett Shepherds Bush, in 2014.
It has plans to expand its hotel portfolio in selected strategic regions in the UK and Europe.
"We consider the UK to be one of the most popular destinations for tourists and business travellers around the world," said the group’s president and executive director Winnie Chiu.
"Major European countries, including the UK, are attracting an unprecedented number of Chinese arrivals and the opening of a second hotel in London will continue to capture this key market for Dorsett, in line with our ongoing business strategy."
Dorsett Hospitality International has three brands under its umbrella – the upscale and midscale Dorsett Hotels & Resorts and d.Collection comprising a range of ‘charismatic boutique’ hotels, and the value-led Silka Hotels.
The group currently owns and manages 22 hotels in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and the UK.
It has eight more openings within the next couple of years in the UK, Malaysia, Australia, and Hong Kong.
