Hong Kong – Singapore travel bubble facing another delay
The two-way travel bubble between Hong Kong and Singapore looks like it could be delayed again due to more Covid cases in both cities.
Just a week ago, Singapore’s Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung said they were finalising arrangements to start the long-delayed travel corridor.
They had hoped to make a joint announcement soon.
The plan was to reportedly launch it in mid-May.
It was originally due to begin five months ago but was postponed at the last minute die to a surge in cases in Hong Kong.
According to media reports in Hong Kong, it could be pushed back slightly to late May.
It would have similar protocols to the original agreement except that now Hong Kong residents would be required to be fully vaccinated.
"We have not fixed a date to announce the resumption of the travel bubble, but will do so once we are ready, hopefully very soon," a Singapore Transport Ministry spokesman said.
Singapore said hundreds of workers will be sent to a quarantine facility and a cluster of positive cases.
In Hong Kong, 11 local cases of unknown source were recorded in the past week.as well as 12 imported cases.
