Hooligan task force for Majorca?
Island authorities reportedly ready to employ British bobbies
Authorities in Majorca are reportedly ready to set up a special international police task force to deal with the problem of drunken tourists on the island. According to a report in today’s Daily Express newspaper, the 100-strong force will specifically monitor the activities of holidaymakers, and officials say they would welcome applications from UK officers.
The move comes just days after British police officers from Blackpool flew to Faliraki to deal with British hooligans who have been plaguing the Greek resort. The newspaper reports that the organiser has already been contacted by several former UK policemen now living on the island.
Kate Mentink Duncan, a British-born councillor living in Majorca and responsible for the resorts of Magaluf and Palma Nova, reportedly told the newspaper: “We would be delighted to have British bobbies on the beat here, providing they speak Spanish.”
The newspaper reports that if the scheme is a success it will be extended to the other Balearic islands.
