Hospitality group Dorsett expanding near and far
At the sidelines of ITB Asia recently, Travelmole.tv caught up with Philip Schaetz, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Dorsett Hospitality.
Dorsett, which is a subsidiary of Far East Consortium International and listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange, is primarily known for its growing Asia Pacific portfolio.
However Schaetz also unveiled ambitious expansion plans beyond the region.
"We are proud to have opened our first hotel in London, the first outside Asia, so that’s a big deal for us," Schaetz said.
The company recently opened a hotel in London’s Shepherds Bush with a plans to expand its UK footprint.
"London is a big focus for us. We have confirmed a second property called Dorsett City located in Aldgate, due to open by the end of next year.
"Currently there is a development team in London seeking out new opportunities with a plan to expand further. "
Since joining Dorsett three years ago, Schaetz has overseen a pattern of steady growth in its core markets in Hong Kong, mainland China, Malaysia and now Singapore, with 22 fully owned and operated properties.
Even with a slight shift in focus towards the West, the core philosophy of Dorsett remains the same, Schaetz says.
"Our philosophy is to bring Asian hospitality to the world. Our target segment is the Chinese/Asian traveller so we plan to strategically open hotels where there is a strong Chinese source market."
Dorsett Hospitality operates the four-star Dorsett and five-star Dorsett Grand brands, Silka Hotels and the D Collection – two individually styled boutique hotels in Hong Kong.
