Hotel check-in kiosks continue to grow
Embassy Suites Hotels is on schedule to become the first hotel brand to have 100% automated self-service technology.
The chain says 75% of its 175 properties will have the IBM automated kiosk hardware, with the rest its properties on line by the middle of next year.
The kiosks were first introduced to Embassy Suites Hotels last October and are featured at six properties.
How often are they used? An average of 10 to 12% of guests use the service, according to Embassy.
Another popular chain, Hyatt Hotels Corp. is adding the self-service check-in/checkout kiosks to more than 100 of its lobbies in Hyatt Regency and Grand Hyatt hotels in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean following a six-month trial.
Hyatt says its proprietary technology installed in NCR’s EasyPoint™ Xpress Check-In kiosks will soon allow customers to choose the newspaper they want delivered to their room, make dinner reservations and select from a variety of activities at Hyatt’s resort locations.
