Hotel finds dog boosts business

Sunday, 05 Jul, 2006 0

The Peabody Hotel may have its ducks in a row, but the almost century-old Fairmount Copley Plaza despite a $38 million facelift is going to the dogs. Or dog.

A 68-pound black lab who came to the hotel as a gimmick in 2004 is helping boost attendance at the Boston Hotel. Some guests are booking three months in advance to take a walk with the hotel’s so-called “canine ambassador.” Tour guides in the city often mention the dog, who has hobnobbed with Jane Fonda’s dog.

“It’s the most successful guest services program I’ve seen in my career,” Jon Crellin, manager of the Copley, told the Associated Press.
