Hotel guests evacuated due to meth lab fire
A casino in Atlantic City had to be evacuated due to a fire that was caused by a make-shift meth laboratory in one of the bedrooms.
Two people, including one hotel employee, were injured in the blaze at the Tropicana Casino.
Police said guest Michael Pillar, 49, of New Jersey was facing charges of maintaining a controlled dangerous substance production facility and possession of methamphetamine after the fire broke out in his room on the 44th floor.
The fire was contained to his room, although guests had to be evacuated from four floors.
Pillar and a hotel employee trying to extinguish the blaze suffered injuries. The fire quickly spread, igniting the bed, fire chief Scott Evans said, adding that the sprinkler system had reduced the fire’s impact.
"The safety of our guests and employees is our number one priority at Tropicana Atlantic City. Only a few rooms were affected by the fire. Hotel rooms have been professionally inspected, and cleared to go back online," general manager Steve Callender said.
