Houston Convention Center installs Bitcoin ATM
The George R. Brown Convention Center has become the first of its kind to install an on-site Bitcoin ATM.
Houston First, the agency responsible for managing the Convention Center, says it is the first Bitcoin ATM to be operated in a government-owned building.
"We think this will be an attractive option for international travelers coming to Houston," said Mark Goldberg, Houston First’s assistant general counsel.
"There will be no need to carry large amounts of hard-currency during travel. Pick up your funds when you arrive in Houston. Exchange-rate conversions for those seeking US dollars are done automatically at our Bitcoin ATM."
"We see it as an amenity that has a lot of value and we feel when visitors start using it, the demand will grow exponentially," Goldberg added.
The Robocoin powered ATM is operated by CoinVault and allows users to deposit US dollars in exchange for Bitcoins and vice versa, or make cryptocurrency transfers.
