Hoverspeed expands cross-Channel services
Car ferry operator Hoverspeed will expand its Dover-Calais services in 2005 with the introduction of two ‘Jumbo’ SeaCat catamarans. In 2004, Hoverspeed operated one 74-metre Seacat and one 81-metre Seacat on the Dover route, only drafting in a third vessel to help cope with peak summer demand. In 2005, the company will operate two larger Seacats, providing extra passenger capacity during peak shoulder periods like Easter, half terms and public holidays. The Seacats complete the crossing in one hour and the new vessels will offer an at-seat refreshment service. Hoverspeed also claimed it would increase its market share on the English Channel by offering aggressive prices. Thee firm is introducing an online £49 return fare. Managing director Geoffrey Ede predicted: “The new £49 fare will be the best available on the Channel in 2005.”
