Huge demonstrations on streets of Bogota
Colombia: 30,000 march following massive bomb in nightclub
Massive demonstrations have taken place in the Colombian capital Bogota after a resurgence of violence that saw 32 killed in a huge car bomb on Friday. The bomb went off on Friday night and devastated a nightclub in the centre of the city, injuring nearly 200 people. The rebel group FARC has been blamed for the attack; an announcement on the rebels’ website has criticised the club as a place frequented by politicians and businessmen. It also published a cryptic message suggesting that a terror attack would take place last Friday. As many as 700 people were in the club when the bomb went off. Newspaper reports suggest as many as 30,000 people took to the streets of Bogota yesterday as a protest against the violence, which appears to have surged again after a relatively quiet period.
