Huge increase in mobile business for Booking.com
Mobile transactions at Booking.com surged by 260% in 2013, the company says.
It revealed the total value of bookings on mobile platforms reached $8 billion last year, up from $3 billion in 2012.
These were made on iOS and Android native apps or at Booking.com’s mobile websites.
Booking.com claims to have more than 425,000 accommodations listed in 195 countries.
In a press release, Booking.com chief marketing officer Paul Hennessy said there was a "shift in consumer behavior from simply booking last minute on mobile to planning, researching, booking and utilizing post booking functionality on our mobile platforms."
Although part of the Priceline Group, Booking.com had failed to make a significant impact with US travelers but in 2013 the US was its largest destination country for hotel bookings.
Booking.com recently embarked on a major TV campaign in the US and Canada and the Priceline Group has allocated $220 million for online advertising globally through 2014.
"There is a lot of growth ahead of us in the US because it deserves to be significantly larger than it is today," CEO Darren Huston recently said.
