Hundreds evacuated in Gran Canaria wildfires
Holidaymakers in Gran Canaria are being warned of road closures and evacuations as forest fires continue to rage in the centre of the island.
Despite the efforts of 300 firefighters and improving weather conditions, the fires are still not under control.
The UK Foreign Office said the fires, which started on Wednesday, are affecting popular mountainous areas, including Tejeda, San Mateo, Telde, San Bartolom-© de Tirajana and Santa Lucia de Tirajana.
It urged visitors to the Canary island to follow the advice of local authorities
Hundreds of residents have been told to leave their homes and around 1,000 hectares have been affected.
Guests are the Tejeda Parador hotel were evacuated safely as flames reached the hotel’s grounds.
