Hundreds of flights added for Brazil World Cup
South American carriers LAN and TAM are boosting flight schedules at home and overseas to cope with increased World Cup traffic during June and July.
Combined, the airlines will be adding an extra 300 international flights, with the biggest increase in frequencies from Argentina, Chile and the UK.
The airlines have also applied to civil aviation regulator ANAC for authorization to run up to 200 air charters during the soccer tournament.
Domestically, there will be 750 new flights operating within the country.
TAM said this will equate to around 640 flights per day, increasing the overall domestic network by more than 30% between 10 June and 15 July 2014.
It will operate up to 22,000 flights within Brazil for World Cup travelers.
LATAM Airlines Group, the holding company for LAN and TAM, said it will invest around $21 million for the additional flights.
Customers with confirmed World Cup flights which are affected by schedule changes will be contacted with amended timings by the airlines or through their travel agent.
