Hundreds trapped on Eurotunnel service
Hundreds of passengers on board a Eurotunnel train were reportedly stranded in the Channel Tunnel for four hours yesterday after their shuttle broke down. According to the Daily Mail, the travellers were forced to sit in their cars as temperatures “rose to suffocating levels” – with little idea what was going on. The newspaper reports that the trouble started on Saturday afternoon when the train stopped – but despite several attempts to restart it, it could not be repaired. One passenger is quoted as saying: “All we had were emergency lights. There was no water and it got sweltering in there. We felt so frustrated and it was incredibly claustrophobic.” Eventually, the train was pulled back to Folkestone, four hours after is left, the Mail reports, and passengers who still wanted to travel were put on another train. A spokesman for Eurotunnel reportedly said: “We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. This does not happen very often.” Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad Ltd
