Hurricane Blanca downgraded as it nears Los Cabos
Hurricane Blanca has been downgraded to a tropical storm in the nick of time as it nears the Baja California Peninsula, but with Hurricane Odile still fresh in the memory, tourism businesses in the resorts of Los Cabos are taking no chances.
Heavy rains and high winds are forecast to lash a wide area of the Peninsular, possibly including the resorts of Los Cabos and some businesses have been boarded up and free standing food stands have been removed from the beach at Cabo San Lucas.
Troops were on standby Saturday and maritime warnings were issued as Blanca became a Category 4 hurricane, however it has now been downgraded as it nears the southwestern coastline.
Los Cabos Civil Protection director Wenceslao Pettit said no evacuations were being planned but nine emergency shelters had been prepared and small boats were banned from going out to sea.
