Hurricane policy said to be an industry first
The Reef Resort in Grand Cayman, Cayman Island, announced a hurricane policy it called a first in the industry.
The policy offers hurricane-skittish vacationers a chance to cancel a reservation within 48 hours of arrival.
“Cancellation payments are simple — rebook without penalty or pay for one night’s stay, a rare offer,” says the resort.
Said Tom McCallum, director of The Reef Resort:
“People may be putting off Caribbean beach vacations due to hurricane worries. We understand their anxiety so we thought it best to do something for our guests before they even leave home….”
He pointed out that Grand Cayman has been hurricane free for more than 70 years until Hurricane Ivan broke the record in 2004.
The new policy went into effect last month and is good through the end of November.
Other resorts are expected to announce variations on the Reef’s policy.
