Hyatt to open all-inclusive resorts
Hyatt Hotels Corp. is getting into the all-inclusive market.
The global hotel company on Friday announced a new wholly-owned subsidiary that will partner with Playa Hotels & Resorts B.V.
The first two Hyatt-branded all-inclusive resorts, in Mexico, will be introduced later this year following multimillion-dollar renovations of existing properties.
Four more Hyatt-branded resorts in Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic will be introduced in 2014 and 2015.
Hyatt will invest $325 million in Playa, which owns 13 resorts with 5,800 rooms in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Jamaica.
Playa will franchise six of the resorts, and operate them under Hyatt brand names after significant renovations.
Playa also will pursue the acquisition or development of new all-inclusive resort, and have the exclusive right to operate them under Hyatt brand names in five Latin American and Caribbean countries through 2018.
