Hyatt vows to remove all single-use plastic toiletries
Hyatt Hotels Corp is joining the growing band of hotel chains saying goodbye to small single-use toiletry bottles in guestrooms.
It plans to ditch small bottles of shower gel, shampoo and conditioner by June 2021 in an effort to cut unnecessary waste.
Marriott International and IHG are among other global chains which have announced similar moves.
It will also cut down on single-use plastic water bottles by adding water refill stations in public spaces like fitness centers and lobbies.
Bottled water will still be available in guests’ rooms, according to Hyatt director of environmental affairs, Marie Fukudome.
"The solution we’re putting in place is making sure guests looking to stay hydrated while avoiding single-use plastic will have that option."
Fukudome said plastic straws will only be available on request, and compostable plastic will be used where possible.
"I think more and more guests are hearing about the ocean plastic pollution issues. I think consumers’ mindsets have shifted quite a bit in recent years."
