Iconic Hong Kong floating restaurant sinks

Hong Kong’s iconic floating Jumbo restaurant has met an abrupt end. The shuttered restaurant sank in the South China Sea while being towed to a new, undisclosed location.

Jumbo had been a famous landmark on the HK waterfront since the 1970s. It had been closed since the start of the pandemic. Noted past guests include the Queen, Tom Cruise and Richard Branson.

It sank near the Paracel Islands due to ‘adverse conditions’ owner Aberdeen Restaurant Enterprises said.

It had failed to turn a profit since 2013.
