IHG accelerating Thailand expansion
Hospitality giant InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is confident about Thailand’s tourism outlook and plans to back that up with 11 more hotels over the next four years.
The new hotels will comprise several of IHG’s brands – two InterContinental Hotels, four Holiday Inns, four Holiday Inn Express hotels and one Hotel Indigo.
“The country welcomed 24.7 million visitors last year despite many negative factors. We see Thailand as our second-biggest potential market in Southeast Asia after Indonesia,” said Leanne Harwood, IHG vice-president for Southeast Asia.
“As we expand our presence in Thailand we are always on the lookout for established and experienced developers who understand what our brands stand for and are familiar with the needs of the market.”
To begin, IHG signed a management agreement with Pattaya developer Nova Park Co. Ltd for a 240-room Holiday Inn Express in the beach town of Pattaya.
It is slated to open in 2017.
IHG said it aims to add a total of 53 hotels to its portfolio in Southeast Asia within the next five years.
