IHG appoints new Americas COO
Global hospitality firm InterContinental Hotels Group has named Jorge Apaez as chief operating officer, Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Apaez will replace the retiring industry veteran Alvaro Diago.
Reporting to Americas COO, Jolyon Bulley, he will be based in Guadalajara and oversee all operations for a portfolio of 220 hotels under six different brands in 21 countries in the region.
He will also manage relationships with the owning companies of IHG’s managed and franchised hotels.
"Jorge is among the industry’s most respected professionals with more than 30 years of hospitality experience including several years leading IHG’s business in Mexico," said IHG’s Americas CEO Elie Maalouf.
"It is a privilege to assume this role and have the opportunity to work with what I view as the finest team of professionals in our industry. We are focused on continuing to make our brands the first choice for guests and owners throughout this growing, diverse region," added Apaez, who joined IHG in 1995 and most recently held the position of senior vice president of hotel operations for the Western US and Mexico.
