IHG to add 30 hotels in Mexico

InterContinental Hotels Group plans to significantly boost its Mexico footprint with an extra 30 hotels in the next two years.

IHG is targeting new hotels comprising nearly 4,000 rooms by 2021 according to Elie Maalouf, CEO of IHG’s Americas region.

The UK-based hospitality giant operates a dozen brands in Mexico and a week ago announced the upcoming debut of new brand Avid Hotels in Zacatecas. That hotel is slated to open in August.

The expansion will focus mostly on new Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express.

It will also open hotels under the Crowne Plaza, Staybridge, Indigo and Kimpton brands.

The expansion will take its inventory to almost 30,000 rooms in the country by 2021.

"We’ve had an incomparable experience over the last 40 years and we hope the relationship to be similar in the future," Maalouf said, referring to its history in Mexico.

Mexico is one of IHG’s top five countries for development, Maalouf said.
