IHG to sponsor 2012 Olympics
Global hotel giant IHG is to announce a sponsorship deal with the 2012 Olympic Games today and is rumoured to be stumping up around £10m.
Joining the likes of British Airways, BP, Lloyds TSB and EDF Energy, the group’s actions will be interpreted by the business community as a defiant move in the face of global economic recession.
It is believed IHG will be handing over £5million in capital to the Games and providing £5m in accommodation and connected services before and during the event.
The move should help throw the spotlight on IHG’s Holiday Inn brand which has just been relaunched to the tune of £600m. Holiday Inn will be the official hotel room provider for the Games and IHG execs will also be involved in the design and layout of the Olympic Village.
