India Tourism, Sydney has again taken out top honours for the Best Stand at the Sydney Travel XPO 2008 organised over two days earlier this month at the Darling Harbour Convention and Exhibition Centre.

This is the eighth time since 1998 that India Tourism, Sydney has won this prestigious award, said Gajendra Kumar, Assistant Director, India Tourism, Sydney.

“It is extremely pleasing that our sincere efforts to promote the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India have been recognised amid such stiff competition,” he said.

The well ornamented India Tourism, Sydney stand was judged the best out of the displays from more than 180 exhibitors.

In addition to its Rajasthani folk art décor, the always busy stand offered henna applications by Mandeep and fortune telling from Pandit Rajan.

After energetic performances by the Nupur Dance Troupe and following tourism films and presentations on Incredible India, audience members were directed to the information-packed stand.

During the two days we met around 30,000 people.  Questions about the Golden Triangle of New Delhi, Jaipur and Agra plus Kerala and wildlife in India were the most common, said Mr Kumar.

Tourism from Australia to India is certainly set to boom after the outstanding response at the Sydney Travel XPO, he added.
