Haslemere Travel is marking its 21st anniversary by giving away ten prizes in a photographic competition.

The prizes have been provided to the leading AITO independent agency in Surrey by key trade partners.

The competition for amateur photographers is in four categories. Two are for adults entitled People and Animals, and Landscape. One is for 12-18 year olds – Where in the world – and the other for under 12s called My favourite holiday.

Prizes range from a two-night break in Venice with Kirker Holidays to seven nights in Greece with Sunvil Real Greece, both including flights and transfers.

Other prizes have been supplied by Abercrombie and Kent, Africa Pride, Beachcomber Tours, Cadogan, Caribtours, Classic Collection, Kuoni and Prestige.

The agency’s chairman Andrew Brownrigg has seen great changes in the industry since his first job in the travel industry in 1974.

He stresses the need for adaptability and awareness of current client demands and booking habits as the most important factors facing retail travel agents in the challenging economic climate.

Brownrigg said: “The most enduring factor in our ability to meet our clients expectations is the close working relationships that we have built over these 21 years with our independent specialist operators partners, particularly within AITO, and with our worldwide network of hotel friends, who provide us with an invaluable bond that adds extra value and personal service to our clients wherever they are travelling.”

Haslemere Travel was started in 1988 and can look back on 21 years, with memories of the British Airways take over of British Caledonian that year and Dan-Air in 1992; the collapse of ILG in 1991, the German takeover of Thomas Cook in 1992, the opening of the Channel Tunnel in 1994, the same year that APD was introduced, the creation of independent consortia in the late 1990s, though to more dramatic developments over the last ten years, with the removal of airline commissions and the growth of the internet, which have such a great impact on the business model of retail travel agencies.

Further details of the Anniversary Competition, which is open to all amateur photographers, can be found on www.haslemeretravel.co.uk/node/147.
