India extends IndiGo’s lease agreement with Turkish Airlines
India has granted an extension for IndiGo’s aircraft wet lease agreement with Turkish Airlines.
Air regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation gave IndiGo a six month extension on its wet lease agreement with Turkish Airlines for two Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft.
The India airline petitioned to the regulator that it wouldn’t be able to continue Delhi-Istanbul flights with its own narrow body planes due to the extra distance required as Pakistan airspace remains closed to Indian airlines.
The DGCA gave the go-ahead for the extension until the end of February 2026.
“We acknowledge the acceptance of IndiGo’s request for extension to its wet lease arrangement with Turkish Airlines, subject to conditions laid down by the regulator,” IndiGo said.
“Given the current geopolitical challenges, this extension provides much-needed continuity and stability in operations.” This approval comes at a crucial time and will help mitigate losses to the Indian aviation due to geopolitical restrictions.”
IndiGo’s codeshare and wet lease partnership with Turkish was at risk after a backlash against the Turkiye government’s support of Pakistan during the conflict which ultimately led to the airspace ban.
