India to introduce visas on arrival for UK
India is to make it easier for Britons to visit by extending its visa on arrival system to the UK.
It also plans to extend the VoA facility, now available at a limited number of airports, to more entry points including Goa.
In January, the country was criticised by tour operators for increasing the cost of a tourist visa from £38 to £82. It also charges a handling fee of £10.20.
Tour operators have also complained at the amount of time it takes to process visas in advance.
However, Virgin Holidays said introducing visas on arrival, which ministers say will happen "as soon as possible", was "a great step" towards driving UK visitors to India.
"Our range of tours to India is among the fastest growing element of the Virgin Holidays Worldwide Journeys portfolio," said head of specialist holidays Ashley Royston.
" As India rolls out the red carpet and makes it quicker and easier than ever for foreign tourists to arrange their paperwork, we hope that this development will encourage Britons to visit this exciting and enticing destination."
